SDCC scavenger hunt info

Some more details on the Scavenger hunt:

The scavenger hunt is going to be pretty neat- you start at DKE booth (#4732), and get a cryptic clue as a hint to find someone.  That person will give  you the first stamped card.  You then have to find that artist pictured on the card, have them sign it, and then that artist will then give you the clue (verbally) to find the next card issuer.   Once you have gathered and four signed cards, you then return to DKE booth, show your cards, and have them stamped REDEEMED.

You will then receive a prize of two additional pre-signed artist cards, Ron English and Travis Louie.

You keep the 6 card set, with redemption and way-station stamps on the backs.

If I wasn’t part of the creation, I would be going to San Diego and playing the hunt!

The final wave of 100 will be released in September.

If you have any sort of compulsive quality, you  will have already counted up the boxes in the photo, and noticed a total of 109.  In the foreground are 9 promotional boxes.

SDCC 2010 exclusive cards

Just finished hot foil stamping cards for an amazing treasure hunt.  DKE Toys is running a scavanger hunt for cards featuring artists attending the San Diego Comic-Con.  Details are available from DKE, by email before the show, or at their booth once you are there.   Following clues, you can gather signed artist cards, and upon gathering all available on the floor, you can show them back at DKE to receive additional cards!   As collectors gather cards, they will be counter-stamped on the back.  The hunt will begin Thursday morning at the show.

In preparation, we had a special gold foil seal made, and stamped 200+ each of 6 different cards.

The leftover foil kicked out the back of the stamper.

Collating Suckpax 1 cards

Now that all the various cards and inserts are ready, we sort out which cards go into each box.
suckpax 1 card sorting

This is the opposite of what many collectors do, which is to open up a batch of packs and then sort the random cards into stacks of teams, or of the same card.  Here we are taking a handful of identical cards and dealing them out into stacks that will be the contents of a box.

I built a pair of these 50 slot “mail box” cases.  In hindsight, I should have made them only 25 slot.  With 252 cards per slot, the total weight when full is about 90 pounds.  I built them before I had actual cards, but I could have weighed a stack of cards from my collection.

Distroboto – Art vending machine

Distroboto machine

Around Montreal there are several re-purposed cigarette machines, which now vend Art!  The project is called Distroboto. The one above is in a bar on St Laurent.  Different artists create items that can fit into a reused cigarette package, and they are sold for $2 via these machines.

Most of the works are small printed matter, such as small zines, or are music via cassettes.  I have seen mini-cds, but not this visit.

Above is the components of the what I purchased, which was identified as “buttons”.

nipple buttons

The actual art was a pair of buttons, and it took me a while to figure out what the images were.

I am working on a small run of trading cards, using recycled materials, to contribute to this project for sale in these machines.
